Biologist - San Ramon

Olberding Environmental, Inc. is searching for a qualified Biologist with specialized training and experience in wetland delineations, stream assessments, and riparian management. Key components include managing individual project tasks and providing direction to support staff; report preparation; managing field surveys; and conducting wetlands delineations, endangered species habitat assessments, and environmental assessments as needed. Consulting experience required. We are seeking someone with excellent restoration ecology and observation skills and knowledge in a wide range of taxa and vegetation communities, with particular experience in the Northern California fauna and flora.

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:
• Lead field efforts including wetland determination/delineation surveys, flora/fauna surveys, habitat assessments, and manage the associated reporting;
• Conduct vegetation inventories;
• Collect data during field surveys using handheld tablets utilizing geographic information systems (GIS) and other software;
• Mentor entry-level and junior staff to expand understanding of project management/delivery and identify opportunities for their professional development;
• Conduct/lead USACE three-parameter aquatic resource delineations;
• Organize and schedule needed surveys for the field season;
• Excellent California plant and wildlife ID skills, particularly for Northern California special status species and their habitats;
• Capable of working independently with strong organizational, time management, and technical writing skills;
• Maintain a flexible schedule due to unforeseen or last-minute project needs.

Requirements:
• BS degree or higher in Biology, Botany, Ecology, Natural Resources, or a related field;
• Five-plus years of relevant professional experience and/or three-plus years of experience in the environmental consulting industry in California;
• Ability to work simultaneously on multiple projects with critical timelines;
• Self-motivated, strong initiative;
• Two or more years of experience leading wetland delineation field surveys using the USACE South Pacific Division requirements and authoring delineation reports;
• Experience using GPS/GIS data collection technology;
• Ability to travel and work in the field, sometimes to remote locations;
• Team player - ability to work well with others as well as independently.

Fieldwork is extensive and may require long hours walking over rough terrain to conduct surveys and monitoring in potentially challenging terrain and variable adverse weather conditions.
