Summary: The Cayetano Creek Mitigation Bank (Bank) provides habitat credits that could be used to compensate for unavoidable impacts occurring elsewhere, to waters of the U.S., waters of the State, multiple federally and state-listed species, and sensitive habitats in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties.

The 100+ acre Bank occurs within an 880-acre ranch designed to result in the establishment of 12.82 acres of wetlands and 0.46 acres of seasonal pond/open water, the enhancement of 11.09 acres of riparian woodland, and the preservation of 76.88 acres of habitat for special status species. Covered species include California tiger salamander (Central California Distinct Population Segment) (Ambystoma californiense), California red-legged frog (Rana draytonii), as well as San Joaquin kit fox (Vulpes macrotis mutica), western burrowing owl (Athene cunicularia), Congdon’s tarplant (Centromadia parry ssp. congdonii), and San Joaquin spearscale (Extriplex joaquinana). Covered habitats include seasonal wetland, seasonal pond, riparian woodland, perennial drainage, ephemeral drainage, isolated wetland, and annual grassland.

Eagle Ridge Preserve

Location: Alameda County, California

Summary: The 535-acre Eagle Ridge Preserve Property was established as a mitigation habitat preserve for California tiger salamander (Ambystoma californiense) and California red-legged frog (Rana draytonii), as well as San Joaquin kit fox (Vulpes macrotis mutica), and western burrowing owl (Athene cunicularia). The Property contains grass-covered rolling hills which serve as a watershed for a well-defined intermittent creek (west branch of Cayetano Creek) flowing diagonally through the center of the site. Numerous pools occur within the creek channel including roughly 600 feet of willow riparian habitat. A ¼ acre stock pond is also located within the Property providing additional habitat value for wildlife species.

Several large ground squirrel colonies have been observed throughout the grasslands providing a network of burrows. The Property is surrounded by grazed grassland habitat, thirty-five large stock ponds within 1.2 miles of the Property, Collier Canyon Creek to the west, and Cayetano Creek to the east. This Property is located within U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service designated critical habitat for both the California tiger salamander and California red-legged frog. The site contains several resident burrowing owls and is within the Mt. Diablo dispersal range for San Joaquin kit fox.

Location: Placer County, California

Summary: Coon Creek Preserve consists of approximately 460 acres located in wester Placer County. The site has been established to permanently protect and preserve over a mile of historic valley oak riparian habitat along Coon Creek. The site is also occupied by grassland habitat intermixed with over 80 acres of seasonal wetlands and vernal pool habitat.
